Stephen Gets Win for Consumers in Appellate Court

Skinner Law Firm had a big win in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond for a client who is battling abusive debt collection practices. Our client, who was the victim of identity theft, fought to set aside a judgment that was fraudulently obtained. After setting aside the judgment, our client filed suit against the debt collection law firm Javitch Block in state court. Javitch then tried to transfer the case to federal court, but the federal court refused transfer and sent the case back to state court. Javitch appealed the federal district court’s ruling, but Stephen Skinner fought the appeal to the Fourth Circuit, where he was victorious in mid-December. The case is now back in state court. Stephen, pleased with his appeal victory, is not surprised about the debt collector’s actions: “These kinds of tactics are par for the course for unscrupulous debt collectors,” he said.
