Skinner Sponsors WV Fest; Andrew Featured in Competition

Skinner Accident & Injury Lawyers was proud to be the presenting sponsor of WV Fest, Charles Town’s annual festival celebrating West Virginia’s unique culture and heritage. This year’s event took place on Saturday, June 17th, just a few days shy of West Virginia Day on June 20th.

WV Fest is a local celebration of all things West Virginia, highlighting the state’s rich history, music, food, and traditions. The festival featured live music, a sports zone, arts and crafts, food vendors, and much more. It was an opportunity for visitors from all over the region to come together and experience the unique culture and charm of the Mountain State. Skinner Accident & Injury Lawyers was honored to be a part of such an important event in the community.

As a firm that prides itself on giving back to the region, supporting WV Fest was a natural fit. A special feature of WV Fest is its unique competition, Are You Smarter than an Eighth Grader? The event pits a variety of teams against one another to answer state trivia questions. One of the teams was made up of Golden Horseshoe alumni. (If you aren’t familiar with the Golden Horseshoe test, it’s a West Virginia history exam given to eighth graders across the state. The top scorers are named Knights of the Golden Horseshoe and celebrated in Charleston for their mastery of the subject.) After years of pursuit, our very own Golden Horseshoe Alum Andrew Skinner finally agreed to participate. And his father, John Skinner, had also joined a team: Team WVU O-Line, which consisted of former offensive linemen from the Mountaineers. Win or lose, we knew it was guaranteed entertainment! It came down to eight graders versus the O-Line team, lead

“We were thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of WV Fest,” said Stephen Skinner. “It was a great opportunity for us to support our community and celebrate the things that make West Virginia so special.”

West Virginia Fest Update

Updated June 15, 2023

John Skinner, father of Andrew and Stephen and a founder of our firm, won the West Virginia History competition at this year’s WV Fest in Charles Town. As part of a team of former and current West Virginia University football players, John beat both Andrew’s team and a formidable team of 8th graders, who had spent the past year studying West Virginia history in preparation for the Golden Horseshoe exam.

Andrew said, “Hats — or should I say “helmets” — off to my dad and his team of Mountaineer football players. They were seriously impressive!”
