Stephen Skinner Intersections Interview with Lyn Widmyer

Stephen Skinner and Lyn Widmyer intersections YouTube series interview.Lyn Widmyer is a Jefferson County writer and former public servant who loves sharing local stories. For years, she has been talking with people in our community about aging, work, and the projects they care about most. After retiring from her job in urban planning for Montgomery County, Maryland, she served on the Jefferson County Commission. She also became a writer and YouTuber.

On her YouTube channel, Ms. Widmyer posts friendly, thoughtful interviews with local people. She asks great questions and helps guests feel comfortable telling their stories. In December, she interviewed Stephen about Skinner Law Firm’s YouTube series, Intersections. Because of her background in planning and local government, she was especially interested in how fast growth is changing our roads and traffic.

What is Intersections?

Intersections is an in-depth look at dangerous traffic intersections in our area. In our work, we often help people who have been seriously injured in car crashes. Over time, we start to notice patterns. Some intersections and roadways appear repeatedly in crash reports.

One reason we created Intersections is to help local drivers know about these spots so they can slow down, pay closer attention, and use extra caution. We also hope the series starts important conversations about road safety. When the same kinds of crashes occur in the same places, it may be a sign that a change is needed, such as better traffic signals, clearer signs, improved lighting, or safer turning lanes.

Growth, traffic, and safety

Our area has grown quickly over the past decade. Many people move here because we are close to Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, but we still have small-town charm. Housing and taxes can also be more affordable than in suburbs closer to the cities.

But more people also means more cars on the road. As neighborhoods grow, traffic increases. Sometimes, road planning and construction do not keep up fast enough. That can lead to backups, confusing intersections, and drivers who feel rushed or frustrated. When traffic is heavy, small problems can turn into big dangers.

Things like traffic jams, short merge areas, not enough turning lanes, and poorly timed traffic lights can all make driving harder. Add distracted driving or speeding, and it can become a perfect storm. That is why it matters to talk about problem areas and push for safer roads for everyone.
