One size does not fit all. In an attempt to help soldiers avoid hearing damage, 3M literally fell short. The 3M Company and Aero made ear plugs that were too short for many ears. Harmful noises were able to get around the earplugs and cause hearing damage. Worse yet, 3M and Aero knew the earplugs weren’t adequately reducing noise. However, they continued to sell them to the Defense Logistics Agency.
The two-color, dual-sided earplugs were issued between 2003 and 2015 during international deployments. These earplugs were standard issue in many branches of the military. Many service members relied on these earplugs to protect them. Thousands have experienced hearing loss because of these defective earplugs.
Attorney Stephen Skinner is representing clients who have hearing damage because of 3M’s defective dual-ended combat arms earplugs.
