In 1969, John C. Skinner, Jr. and F. Dean Nichols founded the law firm of Nichols & Skinner. Prior to joining his mentor and friend to create this new firm, Mr. Skinner served as Prosecuting Attorney of Jefferson County. Mr. Nichols retired in January of 1981. Stephen Skinner returned to Nichols & Skinner from Broder & Reiter, a high-profile boutique plaintiff's firm in New York City, and Andrew Skinner left the Chicago office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, one of the largest law firms in the world to join Nichols & Skinner. Since its establishment over 38 years ago, Nichols & Skinner has been committed to serving not only its clients, but also the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The firm’s tradition of giving back to the community is strong – the attorneys of the Skinner Law Firm are involved in local organizations such as the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle, Leadership Jefferson, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, the Contemporary American Theater Festival and other civic and charitable organizations. The firm is also committed to maintaining and improving the physical well-being of the community, as exemplified by their careful renovation of the exterior of their offices to blend in with historic downtown Charles Town. Skinner Law Firm expanded in 2004 by opening an office in Washington, D.C. The focus of the firm has grown as well: Skinner Law Firm is now dedicated to representing the victims of crime, wrongful death, catastrophic injury and insurance and consumer fraud. The firm changed its name to SKINNER LAW FIRM in 2008 to reflect its change in growth and direction.
